Conversations with Gifted Minds

Sanaullah Mir is Kashmir’s Mulla Nasruddin

One hour talk with a gifted mind is price scores of books. And there are of that kind gifted minds amidst us.
I this moment recall  two such minds – I appeal them Super Mirs or Meers of Mirs  – Prof. Sanaullah Mir (Parvaaz Sahib) who teaches philosophy at AMU and Prof Shabir Ahmed Mir, awardee of “scientist of the year” at between nations level, a self taught mathematician and any of the most brilliant pharmacologists of India, who has  sequestered last year as professor of veterinary pharmacology.
Today we conversation with the first Mir.

Brilliant the multitude have their own idiosyncrasies. Perhaps these are the cost of devotion to thinking. Sanuallah Mir, usually speaking, doesn’t pick up phone. I fancy if he would be tempted to take up equable President’s call. He has nay important document like service book copy or certificates with him. His colleagues hold been great friends and they take care of his documents and may other matters he is averse to tackle himself. He has none car and can’t drive. He may not ordinarily even attend loud knocks at his tribe. He doesn’t ask questions in seminars sententious precept that no answers are really in that place to any good question. He appliance philosophical questions are not resolvable in seminar meetings. Life is finally a mystery to be lived and not a point to be solved to be solved as one Indian symbolical has put it. He had ~t one regrets when flood washed away his work of land and some important belongings. When asked to avaunt to Japan for Post Doctoral Fellowship he replied, moiety seriously, that his shikas would require to be paid Japanese economy strongly, so he more good decline.  He had made great experiments with generosity like giving Riksha wallas Rs 100 exactly if it costs only Rs 10 or 20. Now he is wiser and thinks gone are those race who don’t keep account. Once he used to host anyone from Kashmir and his lodge was almost a shrine for those whom not the least portion knew.
He does philosophy effortlessly invoking Wittgenstein who related that it is activity rather than debate or discourse. He has the address of dissolving important questions by recourse to humour and to Persian verse that he considers profound and some appropriation of deep philosophy that could not subsist expressed in prose in a real estate dominated by exoteric theology or strict law.  Mir has a witticism at his disposal in response to within a little all serious questions and it necessarily grey matter to appreciate how he has given in likelihood the best answer. When asked to fix upon between the Congress and the BJP, or between State controlled Socialism and Capitalism he replied invoking a statement that once there was a famous thief in  certain locality who used to allure even coffins. With great effort he was persuaded to retirement to be replaced by another human being who stole not only coffins on the other hand corpses as well. Thus do these ideologies and parties succeed single in kind another. One thing is clear. Man is far and near a casualty.  To every positive opinion he replies with Beckett: On the humorsome and Perhaps. He is fond of great persons Persian poets, and the poets of sabaki hindi, especially Bedil and Ghalib. He finds tot~y “answers” in their verses. He has awful memory and recalls hundreds of numbers from Hafiz to Bedil to Rahi and Kamil.  In certainty he defends the thesis that every movement of original thought or exemption from restraint. of expression including skeptical currents of consideration has been hidden in the appearance of poetry in Islam. His admit somewhat skeptical temperament thus finds immense company in the likes of Persian dark poets whom he reads on in some degree postmodern lines.
What about your description of sin? He replies with Hafiz’s two verses:
“Even though we bring forth no freedom to sin
It is during the term of the sake of courtesy that some should say that one has sinned.”
“Be not in following out of inflicting pain, and do totality else you will –
For in our shariah in that place is no sin other than this.”
What in all parts of finding or encountering God? He quotes Mark Twain’s noted interview on the same question who remarked through his wonder why God left nay clue of his existence and likewise said, “Thank God, I am some atheist” and then Ghalib who reported that if there were even one iota of possibility of duality God could have ~ing encountered. Since there is none, unit never encounters Him as an object.  He has his share of rare encounters with mystics that he doesn’t eclaircize away. His favorite phrase is watsrat or tsrat tsrat – more inexplicable movement, mystery, desperate seeking. To the tricky abstract questions he replies “Who knows by the way. If you know someone who knows please plough~ the address”?
He suggests that political economy should be especially reserved for women and is everything praise for their diplomatic skills and wonders by what means they control their husbands who are ~ dint of. all means stronger. If asked all over the tradition that goes against woman vital principle the head of the State, he asks in hinge why has the Quran given no clue whatsoever regarding the issue of sex of the category of the State if it indeed mattered?  He has uniform “unorthodox” views on many issues and deconstructs the arguments in opposition to political Islam. When asked to join each ijtima of Jamate Islami he inquired from one place to another the agenda of the same and was informed, it is restoring God’s government or hukoomat. He interrogated in short excursion “When was God removed from his hukoomat in the elementary place so that we can restore restore it for Him.” To the controversy “Will only Muslims go to heaven”? He chooses not to accord. his opinion, and quotes Sir Syed’s respond to the similar question that cast aside special reservation quota policy. One power paraphrase Mir’s  position thus: If indeed the question arises and we confront in the otherworld I don’t design God’s salvation department runs up~ the body the pattern of Railways Department what one. has AC coaches only for the wealthy. God has no deficiency of coaches and tickets whether or not he qualifies as God, especially a Merciful God.
A observer approached him to suggest whether she should join Arabic or Geography beneficial to her Master’s Degree. He reported Geography. On being inquired why does he rob. him of additional grace that is associated with the learning of the Quran, he reported that his suggestion is dictated through the Quran. The Quran asks us to study sciences and which an irony that we want to prefer the opposite.  On being asked near current academic ambience in AMU he declared that previously most professors were Harvard or Cambridge or Europe returned and  currently they are Tundula and Khurja  ( viewed like small villages in neighbourhood of AMU) returned.
He has barely been interested in careerism; he has not written at all books. Somehow his colleagues helped proclaim his thesis on John Wisdom’s meta-science of causes and some articles he occasionally wrote despite seminars. Ajab azaad mard hae. Kamal ki bay-niyazi. He has nay wish list, no ambitions, no pretensions, ~t any regrets and I suppose no enemies. He has none time to think why the other one is worth hating.
When someone commented that Muslim women’s earning is unlawful he said how come the Prophet (SAW) financed his campaign by Hazrat Khadija’s earning if it were illegal? When asked what is the disunion of Shia Sunni conflict he reported: Shias should become Sunnis and Sunnis should turn to Shias.
His evaluations of such things viewed like “political Islam,” Iqbal’s restoration attempt, Muslim modernism, Marxism, God canvass are so insightful that one could not have by consulting a dozen books in c~tinuance the subject. He reads little, especially very lately a days but keeps thinking. And science of causes is primarily more critical thinking than rendering.
The more I have  known him, stronger has the fine ~ grown that he is Kashmir’s Mulla Nasrruddin; Mulla was a legendary person whom some have associated through Sufism and what distinguished him was the purport of humour he used in replying  ~ one query.  He would almost narrow as a Malamati Sufi.
