Watercolours from a 16th-Century De Materia Medica

These wonderful full-page watercolour illustrations are from a 16th-hundred edition of Pedanius Dioscorides’s drudge on herbal medicine, De Materia Medica. Dioscorides (ca. 40–90 AD), a Greek doctor and botanist, is considered to have existence the father of pharmacology, with this five-convolution book hailed as the forerunner of fresh pharmacopoeias (books that record medicines simultaneously with their effects and directions with regard to their use).
