The Phoenix Soars Over London

It should not be forgotten that there are couple great dance companies at Quarry Hill in Leeds. My darling Northern Ballet, of course, but in like manner Phoenix Dance Theatre which started in Leeds and productions rooted in that city.  It is entirely fitting that Phoenix’s showing skill in applying the principles of beauty director, Sharon Watson, should chair the committee that demise coordinate the city’s bid to befit the European Capital of Culture during the term of 2023. If anyone can bag that value highly it is she.

Yesterday she showed her man of ~ in TearFall as part of Phoenix’s Mixed Programme at the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House in London. TearFall is a labor of art but it also incorporates knowledge. One of the disadvantages of our English, Welsh and Northern Irish Systems (excepting not so much the Scottish single) is that our schoolchildren are required to point of convergence their studies on three arts or science “A” levels from age 16. TearFall was individual of three brilliant works and my converging-point on that work has meant that I have not done sufficient justice to Itzik Galili’s Until.WithOut.Enough and Caroline Finn’s Bloom. These are two very different works as you have power to see from Rehearsals: Revealed – Until.With/Out.Enough and Rehearsals: Revealed – Bloom – Caroline Finn and trial different moods.  The first is dismal while the last is comic notwithstanding that not without a bitter sweet convolve.  I think Sharon Watson had a thinking principle for inserting her work which deals by pleasant as well as painful emotions betwixt them. I loved the music toward both – Gorecki for Galili’s operate and some very clever lyrics in Bloom.  I shall discern this programme in Huddersfield on 26 Nov 2015 and I force of ~ focus on them properly then.

Phoenix has not at all forgotten where and how it started and it works closely through local schools and community groups in Leeds.  If you appearance at its twitter stream you be pleased see that it has not taken a rest in London.
